October 1-31 is a big month on the Operation Christmas Child calendar. All your beautifully packed shoeboxes are gathered around the state and transported to Hobart to be processed.
Shoebox Sunday is being launched this year. A new annual event this year taking place on Sunday October 25, Shoebox Sunday will be a fantastic way to let your local community know they can come along and drop off their shoeboxes at your church service or event.
During October the busy team at Operation Christmas Child will also begin processing the shoebox gifts you have so generously and lovingly packed and donated. This is when each box is carefully checked to ensure it complies with cultural and customs requirements. Every so often boxes are found which are not full, so they are topped up with donated filler items. OCC State Manager Jenny Baxter says that the word is getting out though, and their Tasmanian shoeboxes are often so well packed they do not need nearly as many filler items as they used to! The OCC team welcome volunteers who are interested in coming and helping send Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts on their journey towards the hearts and hands of the children in our receiving countries.
If you’d like to pack a shoebox it’s not too late! If you don’t have an appropriate shoebox you can grab a pre-printed one at the ultra 106.5fm offices for a 50 cent donation. And if you’ve got one waiting to be delivered please make sure you get it in soon. The ultra106.5 fm office (above Dome cafe in the mall) is open for collection on Fridays in October, and you can check out the list here for other drop-off locations near you.
THANK YOU. Your support is life-changing for so many children, their families and their communities. The gifts you give will be treasured for years. The Christmas story, who many will hear for the first time, will give hope. And the Samaritan’s Purse aid and relief projects which follow ensure entire communities are changed.
