Spinal Health Week 2016 runs from 23rd-29th of May and this year the Chiropractors Association of
Australia, Tasmania (CAATAS) is encouraging Tasmanians to ‘Back Your Inner Athlete’.
Dr Ashley Dent tells Dave Low back pain is a growing problem and now ranks second in Australasia and seventh in the worldaccording to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) latest Global Burden of Disease study. Neck
pain is also problematic ranking ninth in Australia.
According to the WHO, ‘globally, around 31% of adults aged 15 years and over were insufficiently
active in 2008 (28% men and 34% women). Approximately 3.2 million deaths each year are
attributed to insufficient physical activity levels’.
CAATAS is involved in Spinal Health week with several community service activities.
“CAATAS aims to help empower Tasmanians to take control of their own health journey, whether it
is getting an extra walk in each week or training for an Iron Man event.
The Back Your Inner Athlete campaign is aimed at all ages and all levels of ability; increasing activity within an individualscapability is our main goal. “Adopting healthy habits today, such as improving postural fitness, can significantly reduce the risk of injury or pain in later years.”
The CAA Back App, which acts like your pocket chiropractor, was released 23rd of May 2016.
It can be downloaded for free from www.backyourinnerathlete.com.au, Apple App Store or Google Play.
As you go about your day, it sends subtle reminders about checking your posture, activity levels, water consumption and movement.
Its state of the art ‘Augmented Reality’ feature animates when hovered over Spinal Health Week postcards, which are free from your local CAA chiropractor.
