Day one of the 2016 BBX Royal Hobart Show, and for the second year running, the Show extends into this evening after a trial last year proved a hit with the show going public.
Scott Gadd tells Dave There are lots of school groups at the Show today, and a discount on Show entry for aged care groups today means there will be many seniors at the Showground as well.
Judging is already underway. Poultry and caged birds, dairy goats, live steer, dairy breeds and sheep all commenced at 9.00am. Over in the kennels section, it’s a busy day of judging of well over a dozen breeds, from British Bulldogs, Great Danes and Japanese Spitz, to Keeshond, Shipperke, and Shar Pei. Not to mention the working dogs, from the Australian Cattle Dog to the Shetland sheepdog.
This afternoon there will be live stock sales, beginning with cattle at 1.30pm and progressing through to lambs and pigs. Showgoers are welcome to watch the sales underway.
