National Diabetes Week (12-18 July) aims to raise awareness of the fastest growing chronic disease in Australia, with over 1.7 million Australians living with diabetes, and a further 280 Australians developing diabetes every day.

David Wood talks to Diabetes Tasmania CEO Caroline Weeks about the condition and what we need to know.

In Tasmania, we have over 27,000 people diagnosed with diabetes, 10,000 people living with the disease but undiagnosed, and 45 Tasmanians at high risk – which equates to around 16% of the states population.

During the week, Diabetes Tasmania will be challenging some of the commonly held misconceptions around diabetes and highlight that anyone can develop diabetes – you don’t have to be old and overweight to get diabetes!
