Walk for freedom is an A21 Campaign initiative hosting over 200 walks in 26 countries to raise awareness about human trafficking.
There are 27 million people enslaved through human trafficking today around the world. Every thirty seconds someone is trafficked and 2 million children are trafficked every year alone!
A21 was founded by Christine Caine just over six years ago and now has offices and shelters in 10 countries. They not only provide rescue and shelter for trafficked victims but also legal representation to get traffickers put in jail and prevention and awareness programs to stop it happening in the first place.
Be Hers is hosting the first walk in Hobart in partnership with A21. The walk will begin at the TCA (tennis centre carpark in the domain) then will be quite prominent as we walk silently single file from the regatta grounds to Mawson’s hut and back on the path along the highway. Participants are required to wear black – a21 tshirts will be available for purchase on the day.
We are expecting about 300 people to attend to make a significant stand against this injustice.
